General Program Information

The mission of the Stevens County Developmental Achievement Center is to provide a comprehensive day support and employment program which will enable the persons with disabilities that we serve to become as independent and self-sufficient as possible.

The Stevens County Developmental Achievement Center is licensed through the Department of Human Services to provide Day Support Services, Prevocational Services, and Employment Services. We are also a Community Partner with Vocational Rehabilitation and provide a variety of career development and employment services under this contract. All of our services are designed to increase community integration, productivity, income, and interaction with non-disabled individuals.

The program emphasizes skills necessary for independent living, with a strong focus on connecting individuals to meaningful work and life experiences.

To be eligible for our services through the Department of Human Services, a person must be 18 or older, have a diagnosis of developmental disability or a related condition, receive a screening for home and community-based services, and make an informed choice to receive the services we offer. To be eligible for our services through Vocational Rehabilitation, a person needs an open file with Vocational Rehabilitation and be referred to our program for services by Vocational Rehabilitation.

The Stevens County Developmental Achievement Center is a person-centered service that supports individuals in pursuing the life they want by honoring their choices and dreams.

Yes. Some individuals with disabilities that would qualify for our services attend college, work with unsupported employment, or live in a group home or private home without another day or employment service.

The exact number may vary, but day and employment services are available in 81 Minnesota counties and serve more than 12,000 people.

The goal is to help the individuals we serve in becoming as independent as possible.

The Stevens County Developmental Achievement Center offers a variety of activities, including supported community employment.

A person must be 18 or older to be eligible for services to receive services under the Department of Human Services. A person may be eligible for our services before age 18 through vocational rehabilitation.

Eligibility is determined through a screening process.

Yes, non-medical transportation to help people travel to and from locations where services are provided is part of the services.

No.  The Stevens County Developmental Achievement Center is a private, non-profit organization with our own independent governing comprised of local volunteers.

Financial Information

Day Support Services, Prevocational Services, and Employment Services are usually paid for by a waiver program or through vocational rehabilitation services (VRS), if your loved one can get those services. If not, private pay is an option, or donated funds.

For information about financial services for developmentally disabled adults, please visit the Stevens County Human Services webpage.

If your loved one is on a waiver, the Stevens County Developmental Achievement Center staff will contact Human Services and Medicaid to make arrangements for payments. If your loved one is eligible for vocational rehabilitation services (VRS), the Stevens County Developmental Achievement Center will make arrangements through VRS for payment. Private pay can be in the form of a credit/debit card, a personal check, a cashier’s check, a money order, or donated funds.

Additional Questions

Day support services are a program for adults who have intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD). Another term we use for day support services is our “enrichment program”. Services are provided in a group setting during normal weekday and workday hours. Services vary, but may include recreational activity, specialized therapy, and life skills training.

Day support services are programs tailored to the interests and needs of the people who attend. Activities may include craft classes and games, clubs, community outings and field trips, pet therapy, and music.

While the Stevens County Developmental Achievement Center primarily serves residents of Stevens County, residents of adjacent counties sometimes enroll in our program. Similar programs are available in 81 Minnesota counties.

Yes. Some individuals with disabilities that would qualify for our services attend college, work with us through our supported employment services, work with unsupported employment, or live in a group home or private home without any other service.

Yes. Each service recipient has an individual schedule that can include a mix of day support services, prevocational services and employment services to make a full day of things to do.
